Undoubtedly one of my favorite Photographers, and a great inspiration, is Australian artist Tracey Moffatt.
Her work blossoms in a fascinating narrative with an impression of a captured moment in time, a stolen vision which we are privy to through a hidden keyhole. The feeling of being a voyeur into another's life is undeniable as the tale unfolds and the characters play through their story.
Above are some of the images I find most intriguing from what I find to be Moffats most appealing work, images which evoke such emotion as I feel compassion and sympathy for the persona's depicted.
I remember seeing her series, Scarred for Life II, at the Art Gallery and found myself almost on the verge of tears ( I didn't cry, I was in public, but felt so close to it) as I looked into the pictures and felt for the People of these stories. Though I knew it was staged with actors and no one was hurting right now, it seemed so believable that I hurt for those where this was their life, it once was or still is.
I have two favorite series for different reasons, 'Something More' for it's film noir qualities and 'Invocations' for it's amazing mystical and otherworldly feeling with a what I find to be as story from childhood to woman hood.
Words which come to mind when I view Moffats work....
anguish
lost
searching
harsh
reality
torment
hope
dreaming
voyeur
secrets
trapped
